Randomized Algorithms by Rajeev Motwani, Prabhakar Raghavan

Pub. Date: August 1995
Publisher: Cambridge University Press

ROM THE PUBLISHER
For many applications a randomized algorithm is the simplest algorithm available, or the fastest, or both. This book presents basic tools from probability theory used in algorithmic applications, with examples to illustrate the use of each tool in a concrete setting. Several important areas of application of randomized algorithms are explored in detail, giving a representative selection of the algorithms in these areas. Although written primarily as a text, this book should also prove invaluable as a reference for professionals and researchers.

Game Physics by David H. Eberly
Publication date: 24 Dec 2003
Publisher: Morgan Kaufmann Publishers Inc,US

"Game Physics" is an introduction to the ideas and techniques needed to create physically realistic 3D graphic environments. As a companion volume to Dave Eberly's industry standard "3D Game Engine Design", "Game Physics" shares a similar practical approach and format. Dave includes simulations to introduce the key problems involved and then gradually reveals the mathematical and physical concepts needed to solve them. He then describes all the algorithmic foundations and uses code examples and working source code to show how they are implemented, culminating in a large collection of physical simulations. This book tackles the complex, challenging issues that other books avoid, including Lagrangian dynamics, rigid body dynamics, impulse methods, resting contact, linear complementarity problems, deformable bodies, mass-spring systems, friction, numerical solution of differential equations, numerical stability and its relationship to physical stability, and Verlet integration methods. Dave even describes when real physics isn't necessary and hacked physics will do.

Table of Contents:
Basic Concepts, Rigid Body Motion, Deformable Bodies, Linear Complementarity and Mathematical Programming, Physics Engines, Differential Equations, Numerical Methods, Quaternions.

Publisher: Springer
Year: 2005
Volume: XX
Pages: 592p
Illustrations: -
ISBN: 1-84628-053-2
Language: English
Filetype: Adobe PDF
Filesize: 1.37 Mb

Written for: Final year undergraduates, postgraduates, lecturers, researchers.

An Introduction to Programming with Fortran is a comprehensive introduction to Fortran, and is essential to the complete beginner who wants to learn the fundamentals of programming using a modern, powerful and expressive language; as well as those wanting to update their programming skills by making the move from earlier versions of Fortran.
It contains lots of clear and simple examples highlighting the key language features of the most recent versions of Fortran – Fortran 2003, 95 and 90. The authors also provide examples based on ISO TR 15580 and ISO TR 15581 as these are quite widely supported as well and cover the ISO TR on Enhanced Modules, which is of particular importance to large code suites.
The examples used throughout the book highlight common problems that occur when programming, and give a solution in Fortran, producing a very effective, hands-on approach.
Details of a variety of internet-based sources are also included, which will prove invaluable to those seeking further information and support.

Logic Programming with Prolog

0-0-16-149076-0.jpeg

Author: Max Bramer
Publisher: Springer
Year: 2005
Volume: XIV
Pages: 223p
Illustrations: 6
ISBN: 1-85233-938-1
Language: English
Filetype: Adobe PDF
Filesize: 0.9 Mb

Written for: Undergraduates, lecturers, researchers and programmers in Computer Science.

his book teaches the techniques of Logic Programming through the Prolog language. The name stands for Programming in Logic. Prolog has been used for a wide variety of applications, including as the basis for a standard ‘knowledge representation language’ for the Semantic Web – the next generation of internet technology; it is one of the principal languages used by researchers in Artificial Intelligence.
Logic Programming with Prolog does not assume that the reader is an experienced programmer with a strong background in Mathematics, Logic or Artificial Intelligence. It starts from scratch and aims to take the reader to a point where they can soon write powerful programs in the language. Suitable both as an introductory textbook and for independent study, the programs in this book are written using the standard ‘ Edinburgh syntax’ and should run unchanged in virtually any version of Prolog. A full glossary of the technical terms used is included and each chapter has self-assessment exercises.

Introduction to Reliable Distributed Programming

0-0-16-159501-0.jpeg

Author: Rachid Guerraoui, Luís Rodrigues
Publisher: Springer
Year: 2006
Volume: XVIII
Pages: 300p
Illustrations: 31
ISBN: 3-540-28845-7
Language: English
Filetype: Adobe PDF
Filesize: 2.03 Mb

Written for: Students, lecturers.

In modern computing a program is usually distributed among several processes. The fundamental challenge when developing reliable distributed programs is to support the cooperation of processes required to execute a common task, even when some of these processes fail.

Guerraoui and Rodrigues present an introductory description of fundamental reliable distributed programming abstractions as well as algorithms to implement these abstractions. The authors follow an incremental approach by first introducing basic abstractions in simple distributed environments, before moving to more sophisticated abstractions and more challenging environments. Each core chapter is devoted to one specific class of abstractions, covering reliable delivery, shared memory, consensus and various forms of agreement.

This textbook comes with a companion set of running examples implemented in Java. These can be used by students to get a better understanding of how reliable distributed programming abstractions can be implemented and used in practice. Combined, the chapters deliver a full course on reliable distributed programming. The book can also be used as a complete reference on the basic elements required to build reliable distributed applications.
