Apple's independent repair program has been expanded to include Mac computers. The program was introduced in August of last year, but repair services were limited only to iPhones beyond their warranty period.
The latest expansion provides independent repair shops with access to the Cupertino-based giant's training and resources necessary to fix out-of-warranty macOS devices. These are the same repair manuals and genuine parts that are available to Apple Authorized Service Providers (AASPs). Jeff Williams, Apple’s chief operating officer, said in a statement:
“When a device needs repairs, we want people to have access to a safe and reliable solution — this latest expansion joins the thousands of repair locations we’ve added over the past year. We’re looking forward to bringing that convenient and trustworthy repair experience to our Mac users.”

Last month, the program was made available to repair shops based in Canada and 32 countries across Europe. Apple noted then that over 140 companies in the U.S. have joined the program since launch, with more than 700 locations now offering authorized repair services in the country. Prior to this change, shops had to register as AASPs in order to obtain authentic parts and tools to repair Apple-branded devices.
