XOSé MANUEL BUDIñO starts his musical career in the begining of the 80’s in the Pipe School of Moaña. In 1987 he becomes member of "the workshop of popular instruments" for the Popular University of Vigo, directed by Antón Corral, and he also took part in the Piper band "Xarabal".
In 1991 he forms the band "Fol de Niu" and after its disappearance he collaborates with bands such as Altan (Ireland), Capercaille (Scotland), Oskorri ( the Basque Country),… or artists like Kepa Junquera or Uxía.
He represents Galicia in the McCallan Trophy in the category of "Soloist Pipers" in the Interceltic Festival of Lorient in 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, in this last one was awarded "First Prize of Galician Music".
He takes part in the tour "European Master’s Soloist Pipers" representing Galicia during 1993, 1995 and 1996. Also taking part: Patrick Molard (Brittany), Petko Stephanov (Bulgary), Michael O’Brian (Ireland), Fred Morrison (Scotland), Jean Luc Le Moign (Brittany).
He collaborated in albums by Oskorri (The Basque Country), Alejandra Guzmán
(Mexico), Uxía (Galicia) and Kepa Junquera (The Basque Country).
On the 16th of March Xose Manuel Budiño receives the award to the best revelation soloist in 1997 given by the newspaper "El Ideal Gallego".
MUSIC AWARDS 1999 (S.G.A.E. and A.I.E.)
Xosé Manuel Budiño recieves the award Best Song in Galician for "Ardora" given by The General Society of Authors and Producers in Spain (SGAE) and The Association of Interpreter Artists or Directors" (AIE).
Budiño got nominated to this award after being cosidered for 7 categories in the pre-election: Revelation Artist, Best Song, Best Song in Galician, Best Album, Best Artistic Producer, Best Son Technician and Best Arrangements.
The piper Xose Manuel Budiño recorded a concert for the BBC last January in Glasgow (Scotland). BBC called him again for Music Live Festival in May for a live concert called "Hot Pipes Concert" together with Martyn Bennett (Scotland) and Lunasa (Ireland), the show was broadcasted throughout the world on their digital channel." from his own website.
