Back when Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdrafgon 8cx Gen 2 at IFA this year, Microsoft's Chief Product Officer Panos Panay teased that App Assure is coming for Windows on ARM devices. And today, the two companies made the formal announcement. If your business is buying into Windows on ARM, you can buy confidently.
This is a major step in app compatibility for the platform, as App Assure is designed to make sure that your business won't have any app compatibility issues, and if you will, Microsoft actually works with your organization to fix the issues. It's part of Microsoft's FastTrack program, so Microsoft 365 customers can get it with no extra cost.
"The consistent application compatibility of Windows 10 has been the reason for its worldwide adoption, and we’re proud to extend this compatibility promise to Windows 10 on ARM.
Now our customers can have confidence that their business-critical applications will work on Snapdragon-powered Windows devices," said Brad Anderson, CVP, Commercial Management Experiences, Microsoft.
Adoption of Windows on ARM by business customers is something that Qualcomm is laser-focused on.
When it announced the Snapdragon 8cx in December 2018, the company also announced support for Windows 10 Enterprise.
Of course, getting native ARM64 apps on the platform has been a long and slow journey, so perhaps App Assure will push it along.
